What is Trombone Day?

Every February, Troupe invites musicians of all ages and abilities to Ithaca College to participate in an all-day educational event. Members of the trombone community come together to play in chamber ensembles and masterclasses, work with clinicians and guest artists, perform, and learn all about our favorite instrument!

This year's event was held on Saturday, February 29, 2020. Thank you to all who made it a success. If you wish to be notified about next year's event, you can sign up for the Trombone Day mailing list at the bottom of this page.

What We Offer

TromboneDay_-5.jpg
Ensembles

Trombone Day participants will work in two different ensembles each. The first is a large trombone choir made up of all participants, allowing trombonists of all ages to collaborate. The second is based on the trombonists' age groups, each led by IC student conductors. There is an elementary school ensemble, a middle school ensemble, a high school ensemble, and an adult ensemble.

Masterclasses and Clinics

Each student will have the choice to sign up for elective activities during the day. Masterclasses are usually given by guest artists who work with students one-on-one.

This year we offered elective choices such as a jazz clinic and a workshop for adults on keeping up your chops when you don't play every day.

Lessons

The most common elective is the trombone lesson. These are one-on-one or in small groups, depending on enrollment numbers, and taught by Troupe members. They last for 45 minutes and can focus on whatever music the student wants to work on, such as ensemble music for the Trombone Day groups, music from their school band/orchestra, solo repertoire, or other.
